Doomgiver (alternatively, The Sword of Justice) is one of the Twelve Swords of Power featured in the Books of Swords series by Fred Saberhagen.
History[]
Coming soon.
Appearance[]
Doomgiver is virtually indistinguishable from the other Swords of Power (barring Soulcutter), save for the hollow white circle engraved in its hilt. It is a one-meter, double-bladed Sword with a black hilt, forged by Vulcan from a meteorite. Like the other swords, Doombringer retains its edge and luster regardless of use.
Abilities[]
Doomgiver possesses the ability to turn any attack, overt or otherwise, back on the attacker. The full extent of its abilities is unknown, given the fact that it is rarely used in the appearances prior to its destruction, though it is shown to turn even Aphrodite's powers back on her. A series bible created by Saberhagen (while editing An Armory of Swords) says little beyond that, though it is hinted that the Sword may surpass all of the others.
Unlike several of the Swords, Doomgiver does not make a noise when wielded.
Verse[]
From the Song of Swords:
"The Sword of Justice balances the pans
Of right and wrong, and foul and fair.
Eye for an eye, Doomgiver scans
The fate of all folk everywhere."
