Stonecutter

The block-splitting wedge symbol on the hilt of Stonecutter, the Sword of Siege.

Stonecutter (alternatively, The Sword of Siege) is one of the Twelve Swords of Power featured in the Books of Swords series by Fred Saberhagen.

History[]

Coming soon.

Appearance[]

Stonecutter is virtually indistinguishable from the other Swords of Power (barring Soulcutter), save for the wedge-and-block symbol engraved in its hilt. It is a one-meter, double-bladed Sword with a black hilt, forged by Vulcan from a meteorite. Like the other swords, Stonecutter retains its edge and luster regardless of use.

Abilities[]

Stonecutter possesses the ability to pass its blade through any stone or mineral-based formation as easily as it would pass through air. A wielder could place it point-first on the ground and let go, and the Sword would bury itself up to the hilt. With careful control, the Sword of Siege can even be used for such fine work as sculpting and gemcutting. While the Sword is being used, a deep pounding or tapping noise emanates from the blade, reminiscent of a chisel on stone.

Verse[]

From the Song of Swords:

"The Sword of Siege struck a hammer's blow

With a crash, and a smash, and a tumbled wall.

Stonecutter laid a castle low

With a groan, and a roar, and a tower's fall."
