Townsaver (also known as The Sword of Fury) is one of the Twelve Swords of Power in the Books of Swords series by Fred Saberhagen.
History[]
Coming soon.
Appearance[]
Townsaver is virtually indistinguishable from the other Swords (with the exception of Soulcutter), save for white castle wall and sword engraved on the hilt. It is a one-meter, double-bladed Sword with a black hilt, forged by Vulcan from a meteorite. Like the other Swords, the Sword of Fury retains its edge and luster regardless of use.
Abilities[]
Townsaver has the ability to control the body of anyone trying to defend the unarmed, granting the wielder superhuman speed and strength. Once the Sword has been taken up, it does not allow itself to be set down until every enemy has been repelled. Unfortunately, while Townsaver can allow a single man to defeat an entire army, it does nothing to prevent injury to the wielder. In its first use, the Sword failed to prevent several blows from connecting with Kenn, who succumbed to his injuries once the battle was over.
While in use, Townsaver emits a screaming sound. The blade turns red and appears to be burning the air around it and drawing the smoke into itself.
Verse[]
From the Song of Swords:
"Long roads the Sword of Fury makes
Hard walls it builds around the soft
The fighter who Townsaver takes
Can bid farewell to home and croft."
